The Laboratory Technician will work with complex systems and perform highly technical mechanical operations in a BSL-2 Laboratory. Under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, the candidate will perform blood bank operations; log-in specimens, issue blood components, work in biological safety cabinet, take inventory, perform biological sterility tests, maintain laboratory equipment, and maintain laboratory environment. The Candidate will also perform protein analysis assays, cell culture preparation and maintenance and various other laboratory related duties/assignments. The candidate will follow a ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Candidates will also be given the opportunity to perform periodic research. New hires will be expected to independently review scientific literature relating to the industry.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Understanding of technical aspects of lab department, blood banking concepts, hematology, microbiology, serology, flowcytometry, cell culture and organic chemistry. Must be familiar with universal precautions. Must be familiar with and capable of following ISO 9001:2015; quality management system’s procedures and protocols. Must be detail-oriented, well organized, self-motivated. Able to perform multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy. Must be able to accurately perform multiple tasks in a fast paced environment while maintaining good co-worker relations. Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, physicians and staff. Must be proficient in Excel. Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
Educational and Experience Requirements :
Bachelor degree or higher in a biological science, chemistry, medical technology, or related science.
Experience with aseptic technique.
Have knowledge of cGMP’s governing Registered and Licensed Blood Establishments.
Have knowledge or experience with the general principles behind ELISA assays, gel-electrophoresis, flow cytometry, microscopy, cryogenics, PCR and cell culture.
Preferred Candidates will be published as a contributing author in a scientific journal article in a relevant field.
General laboratory equipment including but not limited to: hematology cell counters, residual cell counters, light microscopes, biological safety cabinets, bacterial detection analyzers, pH meters, centrifuges, pipettes, sterile docking devices, ultra-low refrigerators/freezers, sterility incubators, sonicators, tissue homogenizers, heat sealers, filters, tubing strippers, weights, scales, balances, microbeads cell isolation kits, chromatography kits, electrophoresis kits, and ELISA assay kits.
Must be able to lift 25-35 lbs, with frequent walking and standing. The job requires manual dexterity. Must be able to work in variable temperature controlled environments.
